“Sonya listened to our design brief and came back with exactly what we asked of her. The design (and logo) was unique when we first launched Jules Taylor Wines back in 2001. It was clean, elegant and understated.
A design that we felt would not date over time...”

JULES TAYLOR

VISION:

In 2001 winemaker Jules Taylor approached Fresh Designs to help create a brand and design for her own range of wines. With many vintages abroad and at home behind her, it was an ideal time to launch her own range of wines and give her the opportunity to showcase her abilities. Jules Taylor Wines emerged as a little moonlighting project with a mere 200 cases. Five years, two children and many, many late nights later, George and Jules took the nail-biting decision to put everything on the line, jack in their day jobs, and give their dream a shot.

20 years on and her global brand is continuing to grow. Jules has gone on to produce many wines of award-winning character that are enjoyed all over the world.

Jules left her corporate winemaking career to give her the freedom to make wines the way she thinks they should be made:

They participate in NZ Winegrowers’ innovative greenhouse gas emissions benchmarking project.

On their own vineyards in 2021-22, our carbon emissions per tonne of grapes grown were 40% lower than the New Zealand Wine Industry average.

In addition, all of the grapes, wines and production facilities for Jules Taylor Wines are 100% accredited by the world-leading New Zealand Sustainable Winegrowers scheme. Through this programme, they monitor and minimise all inputs in the grape growing and winemaking process, including water, energy and chemical use, as well as outputs such as waste. The goal is for year-on-year improvement and sharing successes with their peers.

In 2019 they joined the Organic Winegrowers New Zealand organisation and in 2022 they bottled their first certified organic wine:

All their wines are made with a minimal intervention approach, handling the wines as little as possible and avoiding additives wherever possible. All their white and rosé wines have been Vegan friendly from the 2018 vintage onwards.

In 2022, the winery facility reduced it's Carbon usage by ~80% by moving from dry ice use to reticulated CO2 gas.

They are working with the local council and with neighbours to redevelop the wetland area around the Jules Taylor HQ property by removing introduced species and restoring the area to native plantings. The goal is to increase the biodiversity of the area and provide a habitat for native birds and insects.

They are proud to bottle their wines at Wineworks NZ - who became
NZ’s first certified Carbon Zero wine bottler in April 2021. In 2022 they reduced their carbon footprint by 36%, exceeding the target they had set.

They have been working with our label supplier MCC to reduce wasted paperstock and inks in label production process, and with their bottle supplier Chandler Glass to reduce the carbon footprint of their bottles.

Customers can now offset the carbon footprint of your wines for any purchases directly through their website. This is managed by Carbonclick.com who offer a range of projects here in NZ and overseas to offset the carbon emissions of our wine deliveries.

Jules only makes one batch of each wine every harvest. So, enjoy it while you can. Once it’s gone, it’s well and truly gone.

PATH:

She wanted a design that was both classical and minimalist. A label that would not date and would work anywhere in the world. The logo created is equally minimalist, the strong vertical lines of the 'J' and 'T' suggest the posts that hold up the vines and the soft forms of the 'w' the tendrils of the vines they support.
